[Eddie Android] Auto connect on insecure network

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I’ve done a bit of googling and explored the app, but I haven’t been able to locate this feature. Is there any way to set Eddie to auto-connect whenever it detects I’m on any Wi-Fi except for certain trusted ones (like home or family networks).

I previously used the WG Tunnel app, which offers this with a straightforward config, but itself frequently drops. So, I switched back to Eddie, which works flawlessly—apart from lacking this convenient feature.
Many thanks

Hello!

It is described in the manual, step by step.

Please make sure to check the manual here:
https://airvpn.org/android/eddie/#step6

and here:
https://airvpn.org/android/eddie/#step7

Please note that if the "Always on VPN" feature has been removed by the manufacturer, no VPN app can start and connect during the device bootstrap. This is relevant for example in Huawei and some other phones by Chinese companies, where this options was removed to forbid automatic VPN connections at the startup. This feature has also been removed from Android TV 10 and higher versions, with the same purpose.

Kind regards

Figures it was on the manual and I absolutely missed it. Sorry about being *that* guy.
Many thanks!

Edit: Hey, just read the manual. Section 6 talks about "always on" and 7 to start on boot, but that's not what I'm looking for.
I just want it to automatically turn on when it detects I'm connected to any WiFi other than the ones I specify (home WiFi for example)
I've attached to the UI setup on the WG Tunnel where one can set up what o mean

Hello!

There is no way for Eddie to recognize one specific network and modify the behavior accordingly at the moment. It is a feature we can consider with the due caveat (you need to renounce to system's leaks prevention).

Kind regards
