New user - router question

Recommended Posts

This Mac is connected to the internet through a TP-link router. I installed tunneblick on the mac and connected through it, but should it be installed on the router? Are the privacy benefits of Airvpn realised when connected behind the router?

Hello!

Yes, of course! Only on the connected computer, as you probably already know (i.e. another computer not connected to the VPN will not get of course any "protection").

Kind regards

Thanks for the reply.

Can tunnelblick be installed on the router so that any computers connecting through it would be protected? If so, how is that done?

(The tp-link router in place is supported according to the list).

Thanks,

trisolo

Hello!

Tunnelblick is only for Mac OS X, but OpenVPN is supported by various firmwares (DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Tomato...) which are good for several routers. Which router brand and model do you have? If it is supported according to the list (do you refer to the DD-WRT list?) then you can flash it with DD-WRT or some other firmware (usually we see that OpenWRT and Tomato do not suffer of some DD-WRT issues and bugs).

Kind regards

I see... seems some more study is necessary... is there a good resource that is recommended (website) that explains how to get a vpn set up on a router?

thanks for the help!

Looks like it's supported by DDWRT. What is your ISP connection speed? The best consumer routers are going to give 7-10 Mbps throughput with encryption. If you want more than that you will need a more powerful router.
