Use of software is prohibited by my IP Address

Hello,

I just downloaded a music software when I was not connected to the AirVPN server -- it would not allow me to download the software in question when I was logged on to the AirVPN server, particularly the server in the UK.

Not that the software is installed on my computer, when I try to login to the software it says, "use of this software is restricted by your IP Address" which is the IP Address located in the UK.

Why does this occur?

I downloaded a music software when I was not connected to the AirVPN Server because it would not allow me to download the software when I was connected to the AirVPN Server with a different IP Address from my true IP Address. When I tried to run the software while I was connected to the AirVPN Server -- the software requires internet connectivity -- it said that the AirVPN IP Address was restricted from running the program.

Without knowledge of which software it is, we can only propose mere speculations.

Maybe the software connects to a host which performs geographical IP discrimination. Or maybe the host has a business model which can work only with privacy intrusions, and this model is threatened by usage of VPNs.

As far as we know Rhapsody discriminates against non-USA IP addresses. Please try to connect from an USA server.

Yes, this is common, and is in fact one of the reasons to use a VPN or proxy. It's all about licensing. Publishers make deals with various outlets to sell their product in certain geographical locations, so typically vendors in the UK won't have permission to sell certain items to persons in the US, and vendors in the US will have items they can't sell to persons in the UK, or wherever else. So a good rule of thumb is to use a UK IP address if you're trying to access a UK or European service that offers digital goods, and a US one for US services.
