Binding AirVPN to qBittorrent in WINDOWS in order to seed/torrent properly

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been loving AirVPN so far, but ran into some issues regarding torrenting. I'm part of a few communities that recommend port forwarding, seeding, etc. Initially, I used Mullvad, but they opted out of doing that.

I've fixed my qBittorrent settings so that my communities see that I'm torrenting, downloading actually works, and I technically have a forwarded port with AirVPN. However, I still can't seed. I've talked with some people in my communities and they recommended binding AirVPN to qBittorrent, but I cannot find how. All I keep finding are articles that say in Linux, you need to set network interface to tun0. But I'm using Windows. (sidenote: Am I in the minority of AirVPN users, using Windows?)

The thing is, I might already have bound it. I've been playing around with the settings for a while now. I'll share the settings below. Please let me know what I need to do to bind the VPN to the torrent client. Thanks!

(Windows 11 btw. Accidentally updated it while trying to update RStudio.)

Eddie settings:
-Network is locked
-v 2.21.8
-Primarily using Dutch or Czech servers when trying to torrent

Qbittorrent (v.4.5.2)
Connection
-Peer connection protocol: TCP & uTP
-Port used for incoming connections: Established AirVPN port I've set up
-Use UPnP / NAT-PMP port forwarding from my router UNCHECKED
-Global maximum number of connections: 100
-Maximum number of connections per torrent: 50
-Everything else, including Proxy Server settings, are UNCHECKED

BitTorrent
-Enable DHT CHECKED
-Enable PeX CHECKED
-Enable Local Peer Discovery CHECKED
-Encryption ALLOWED
-Everything else, including Torrent Queueing and Seeding Limits, are UNCHECKED

Advanced
-Network interface: Any interface
-Optional IP address to bind to: All addresses (Note on this: I cannot find in the drop down menu the actual IP address that shows up on ipleaks.net)

You bind a program to a network interface, not a virtual network to a program! In order to do so, you can modify the following option:

Advanced
-Network interface: Any interface

Set it to the virtual network interface (for example wintun in Windows). Also note that by keeping Network Lock enabled you will prevent in any case (including torrent software mis-configuration) any possible traffic leak.

Kind regards
