OpenVPN Config Generator: DNS resolve error for "Earth" location

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just realized, that I cannot connect via OpenVPN when I use "By Planets"/"Earth" as the geographical location in my OpenVPN config file. I have tested this on iOS and macOS (Hummingbird), but regardless of my OS, it seems that earth3.airvpn.org cannot be resolved on AirVPN side. Other locations (e.g. "By Continent"/"Europe") work and resolve as expected.

Here is the log from iOS/OpenVPN Connect App:

(repeating)
Hummingbird client on macOS throws an identical error ("Cannot resolve earth3.airvpn.org (nodename nor servname provided, or not known").

Is there an issue with this location in the Config Generator or another problem with this host?

@spinmaster

Hello!

It's a bug in the Configuration Generator coming from the times when the name earth3.airvpn.org existed. Now it doesn't exist anymore. Please modify it into earth3.vpn.airdns.org or earth3.all.vpn.airdns.org. The first name resolves into the entry-IP address 3 of the "best" Earth server, the latter into entry-IP addresses 3 of all VPN servers.

We will fix the bug, in the meantime you can simply edit with any text editor your ovpn file. Thank you for having found and pointed the bug out.

Kind regards

Hi @Staff,

just a quick reminder that as of today this bug is still open in the Config Generator. No big deal for me, but new/other users (who are unaware) might be wondering why the old host is not resolving.
