It seems no topic in Linux VPNs causes as much headaches as DNS leaks. VPN forums are full of dozens of complicated solutions that may or may not work. On one hand, I get no leaks with Eddie. On the other hand, Eddie crashes all the time. Using the command line openvpn client with AirVPN gives me a DNS leak.

I've been trying out some of the competing VPN providers and most lack linux GUI clients. On those other services, I get the same leak.

My question is, should I care? My main use is for P2P at home and general privacy in coffee shops or hotels on my phone. I'm not in a country where I am worried about hard-core oppressive tactics. Is spending several hours stressing over config files worth it, in my case?

Hello!

That sounds odd because there are no DNS leaks in GNU/Linux. They simply don't exist.

A different argument is how to accept DNS push from an OpenVPN server. That adds a little bit of complexity, but you don't have to worry about that if you run Eddie, the Air software client. If you don't, check out our reference guide in our "How To" forum:

Kind regards
