IP Geolocation Surprise. Advice?

Recommended Posts

I noticed that even when using openvpn through wireless on a macbook, in firefox the html5 geolocation demo isn't misdirected by the IP.

It must directly access the wireless or there is some leakage.

It seems pointless using a different IP if the other is leaked.

Any advice on how to deal with this?

Hello!

Firefox will try to determine your location with various techniques which do not rely on IP address alone. You must have authorized Firefox to disclose your location in order to let the browser communicate it to third-parties. Always remember that a VPN connection secures your connection, not your computer or your behavior. If you explicitly reveal your position or send any other sensitive data, or if you have malware in your system, there's nothing we can do.

Please see here:

Kind regards
