Torrent Web UI not working when forwarded to different port

Ive been using airvpn for a while and have all my apps working well remotely.

 

Recently my uTorrent stopped being reachable remotley, I tried to change ports / settings but nothing seemed to work.

 

So I decided it was time to switch clients anyway and started using qBittorrent. But this has had the exact same problem.

 

It started driving me mad so decided to do a troubleshoot test:

 

I turned off my VPN and forward the webui port through my router and tried to connect remotley that way. It Worked.

 

So then I forwarded the webui port to a different port number and tried to connect remotely through that port. It Did NOT Work.

 

Just to make sure I tried the same method, different port number, with a another app (sabnzbd). It Worked.

 

So I dont think its fully a VPN problem.

 

 

Next I removed all router forwarding and re enabled my VPN.

 

In AirVPN i chose a new port number and forwarded it to be the same as local port and used that in qTorrent web ui. It Did NOT Work.

 

So Im at a loss. Any ideas?

 

 

 

Torrents download great on a separate port this is just for the remote web ui.

No UPNP or Router Port forwarding

Ports are all open when checked on AirVPN and Port Checkers.

So turned out the last attempt of using the same remote and local port worked.

Still not sure why I cant forward a remote port to a standard local port in either torrent client.

That's caused by how a torrent client works. It announces directly inside the packets the port you configure in it. More details in the answers to the FAQ:
