Airvpn not connecting today...

Recommended Posts

Hi I connect via a guest/visitor wifi and Airvpn is not connecting to my usual Canada servers. Do I post my log for review? Airvpn just keeps on switching servers and never connects. I already restarted my computer.

Thank you

Hello!

Yes please post any logs you can, as it's otherwise not possible for us to help . Are you using the Eddie client?

Moderators do not speak on behalf of AirVPN. Only the Official Staff account does. Please also do not run Tor Exit Servers behind AirVPN, thank you.

That's great, thank you.

First of all, update your client to the latest stable or, if you prefer, experimental release . That client is from early last year.

Then please try going to Eddies preferences>Protocols>Select TCP after unchecking "Automatic" and connecting to a new location. Then please tell us what happens.

which TCP?

Any you choose. Most would typically pick TCP 443, as UDP 443 is otherwise the default.

But first please update your client .

Hi, updated eddie client and switched to tcp, still not connecting. I am going to try connecting via my cell hotspot then connecting to airvpn to rule out my work guest/visitor wifi causing the issue.

Hi, I just connected via my hotspot and was able to connect to AirVpn, can a network administrator block a guest/visitor wifi network from connecting to AirVpn?

Please try using the SSH or SSL protocol on the guest network .

Yes it's possible to block things on a network, using more or less elaborate techniques.

It would be nice to see your logs when connecting to the guest network.

yup SSL protocol works! so what happened? Did they attempt to block or did they noticed someone was trying to connect via AirVpn and blocked it?

SSL hides that you're using Air, thus making it harder to block . I don't know what they did. But it certainly seems like they're trying to filter out certain kinds of traffic.

Enjoy.

Hi, thanks, quick question is there anyway for them to track my laptop down if my laptop name has my first name and last initial as the device name...do I change it? I am assuming they can see me when first signing on to the network then I disappear when connecting to airvpn? Thanks

That's a simple question with a potentially broad answer. Which "them" do you mean? The owners of the network can see a connected laptop, but with Air on, they can't see what you're doing online, which is the crucial thing.

If you want to become more secure/private, then there's plenty of places you can read up on that. So in a sense, the name of your laptop is the least of your worries, but it can't hurt to change it if you're concerned.

But how you manage your personal computers, is outside the scope of what Air is trying to do.

Correct the network owners can see my connected laptop...but does it say, what i don't want is for the network owener to see my "firstname last initial" laptop connected then they can search for my name.

They would also see a MAC address - which isn't great either and arguably worse, in terms of tracking. But regardless, simply change your PC name .

In a casual setting, this sort of thing isn't something to really worry about though. If you worry about this, it would be natural to worry about Windows next, as it sends a lot of information to MS.
