Open NIC Canadian Servers from US

The past few days I have been unable to connect to the Open NIC Canadian DNS server I usually use.  Today I went through a list of their Canadian DNS servers and could not connect to any of them.  

 

I was able to successfully connect to the first Open NIC USA DNS server I tried no problem.

 

I use Comcast as an Internet provider.

 

Any idea if this is:

 

a. Just a fluke

b. Comcast is blocking non-USA DNS servers?

c. Something else?

 

Also -- does it matter in terms of security?  I figured I'm be slightly safer with a DNS server outside the USA, but maybe not - maybe all Open NIC DNS servers are just as good regardless of location?

What does Comcast have to do with this?  Aren't you using AirVPN?

​Why don`t you use the default DNS-servers from Air.I think you already trust Air about there "mission" (https://airvpn.org/mission/) .

My experience about dns is very oke. If you use Eddie ,go with default.

go558a83nk -- Comcast... maybe has nothing to do with it.  I was speculating that they might be able to detect DNS servers outside the USA. Maybe not with AirVPN engaged.  Comcast is viewed with suspicion because Comcast is the major funder of successful lobbyist efforts to allow USA ISP providers to collect and sell all user data.

 

Casper31 -- With Eddie I use the defaults.  With my ASUS router I followed AirVPN's own set-up directions which specified to turn off default DNS servers and utilize Open NIC.  See https://airvpn.org/asuswrt/ .  Yes, AirVPN is trusted.

yes, my point is that with the VPN "on" all your DNS requests should be going through the tunnel.  comcast should have no idea what DNS you're using.
