Windows firewall has blocked some features...

Hi guys,

 

Apologies if this question has been asked before.

 

New to AirVPN. Fairly tech savvy but not so much when it comes to networks. I've enabled Network Lock. Since then I've been getting messages like...

 

 

Windows firewall has blocked some features.

 

for specific programs and asking me whether to allow access or not (i.e. create a firewall exception). Sometimes there's an option to select between Public and Private Networks.

 

My first question is if I click "Allow access", will this mean the program in question can now bypass

AirVPN and access the internet directly?

 

Secondly, if I refuse, does this mean that it can't access the internet at all as long as Network Lock is active?

 

Thirdly, when I go into Windows Firewall (I have Windows 7) I can't see any rules generated for those occasions when I do decide to allow access.

 

I would be very grateful if someone could explain all of this to me.

Welcome to AirVPN!

 

1. Allow access means letting the program communicate through your firewall, instead of being blocked.
2. You can still use the net with NL activated. It's just that some programs may either not be able to or have a harder time; which can, for instance, slow things down in the corresponding program.
3. After NL has been activated, you can go into the firewall settings and manually add programs. Then check the "Public" or "Private" boxes, depending on which one your network is currently on .

Network Lock is a very handy feature for preventing leaks and is what many call a "killswitch", when you browse other VPNs :].

Well, Java seems to be working through the VPN without the need to puncture a hole through the firewall.

Although I still don't understand why any exceptions I made don't show up in either the Inbound or Outbound Rules in Windows Firewall.
