For the same political reasons why many people would support AirVPN over other, simply commercial, services, AirVPN *would* become a more likely target for corporate/state sabotage., wouldn't it..?

I don't think so. If both services work correctly and as well as the other a service that's "simply commercial" and a service that's inspired by other factors pose the same potential problems for the entities you've named.

If AirVPN is so good that a given corporation or government would bother to try to sabotage it, wouldn't that merely spur is on to further supporting it? :]

But hey, if a corporation or state were to find security holes in AirVPN or its software, perhaps Air would be generous and give them 1 years free service ;D.
