Connection issues

Network stuff is what I'm least knowledgeable about when it comes to computers, so I'm having a very hard time getting things working properly.  I was hoping to be able to download the AirVPN client and enable it when needed and be more or less done but I've been wrestling with it for many hours and have accomplished little.  Initially I had the problem where it got stuck on "checking to see if the tunnel works" and then "checking DNS", disabled all those, did all kinds of fooling around with installing an older version of the adapter driver and eventually was able to get connected (albeit using the newer, supposedly problematic driver).  Although it didn't seem like the connect I had was very good, I was on a kinda crappy hotspot but I saw a 70% drop in speed when connected and couldn't access airvpn.org for some reason.

 

Now, I'm at a public library where I'm planning on doing a lot of studying for the next couple weeks.  Always have had an issue with public wifi spots that force launch a login page, fooled around with my settings enough to find that on my physical adapter it was set to manually connect to a DNS server - pretty sure it was one that had to do with my school's intranet or something.  Changed that to automatic, and connected just fine..  Now trying to get AirVPN to go and receive a fatal error and complete inability to connect (see log).

Did you mean you tried the TAP drivers? It wasn't clear if you were referring to having downgraded these or tried the new ones - it doesn't look like you changed them. Do try to set all of your network adapters to "Obtain Automatically" - that includes the TAP adapter. Excellent first post you made; refreshing to see the logs in spoilers lol.

First, let me welcome you to AirVPN.

Your first connection was successful, from the looks of it. Then you disconnected manually, after that every connection failed because it couldn't enable DHCP on Ethernet 2. You could try running AirVPN as admin.

There's an experimental version of the AirVPN client with updated software versions, you could try this one. I linked to the installer package. Before installing, uninstall AirVPN, OpenVPN and the TAP driver and reboot once.
