Does BBC iPlayer work with AirVPN?

Hi,

 

I have had a subscription with another VPN operator for the past 18 months or so, but since the BBC upped its iplayer security last month, I've not been able to get it to work.

 

I am happy to pay for an AirVPN subsciption if it still successfully works with the BBC iPlayer despite the increased security - can any iplayer users confirm successful use in recent weeks?

I can confirm it works for me as of today on my fire tv stick with uk airvpn on advancedtomato router (openvpn).

Just tried iplayer on AirVPN and it is working. You can also access it via non UK severs with AirVPN.

I've just bought a 3 month Air VPN plan and cannot get access to BBC iPlayer no matter what country's server (including UK) I use. Please could someone confirm that BBC iPlayer should work? I have tried servers in the UK, Netherlands and Singapore - all with the same result: iPlayer says that I am not in the UK so can't access the programmes.

I've just checked it on three different servers; in the UK, the Netherlands and Canada. They're all working fine. Could it be your browser is leaking your true location?

BBC live streams on iOS doesn't work from Georouted VPN servers. On the other hand, from UK servers are working just fine.

I just had the same problem and managed to fix it in Firefox by disabling the 'geoloation' service. I guess the BBC have started checking the co-ordinates your browser sends.

Not fully researched the heuristics of how Firefox ascertains my location even if I use a VPN most of the time, but it seemed to do the trick.

 

One other thing to try is changing your clock to GMT/BST. That made me able to use C4's service last time I checked.

Iplayer was working for me last evening through the UK Vpn servers. However as of this afternoon I am unable to access iplayer streaming.

For me the iplayer site takes a very very long I then get a black screen. Tried on both a Win7 and and Mac and the same result.

Same for me. I was happily using it through the Canadian servers yesterday but today it is taking ages to load and then times out. I am using Win 7 x64 with Firefox and geo-location disabled. Either the Beeb have upped their game or it's another Denial of Service attack!!

I have exactly the same problem as Flop. Sadly missing the Sherlock new years special.

 

When I disconnect from VPN the website is very fast again. So it seems they are throttling the airvpn proxy and not outright blocking it anymore.

can confirm this morning even the bbc.co.uk site appears blocked on UK servers. I wonder if this is to do with new years eve DDOS attack they suffered?

can you please test iPlayer now? The problem should have been solved.

 

Note: some slowdown will still be possible, but that could be a different problem totally unrelated to our infrastructure (attacks against BBC streaming servers will make iPlayer service extremely slow or unavailable, as it has already happened intermittently since Dec the 31st).
