If released, the expected OpenVPN performance on it should be fine with upto 100Mbit speeds. For anyone who plans to upgrade their routers and run OpenVPN on them - consider this one. 5 rickjames, OmniNegro, wer and 2 others reacted to this Hide zhang888's signature Hide all signatures Occasional moderator, sometimes BOFH. guppy 10 Posted ... Just remember crowdfunding is not the same as a pre-order, there is a very real risk that you will never receive a product or even if you do and it's somehow turns out not to be a smoldering pile of dung it's entirely possible that with no continued source of revenue that the team behind may just dump the project and move on. I'm not hating on the specific project just saying that this has happened.. *a lot* Share this post Link to post
Project971 0 Posted ... I just seen it too, seems very interesting indeed... any idea if it could support airvpn ?? Share this post Link to post
flat4 79 Posted ... This pretty cool, but for 189 i can build a pretty stout pfSense box. Hope it works out for them 1 OmniNegro reacted to this Hide flat4's signature Hide all signatures pFsense it works Share this post Link to post
zhang888 1066 Posted ... This indeed will support AirVPN with upto 100Mbit speeds. And the project is going to launch 99.9% - this is not some random project ofmaking a new coffee machine with TCP/IP, these guys are as solid as rock. I was lucky to see some of the founders during the CCC conference - and I can onlysay the most pleasent wishes. If you are into open source software and hardware, and a fan of OpenWRT, you should definitely watch this: _https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gm_x9vKQ6Q As for pfSense, you cannot get a board with this form factor and 802.11ac withthis price. And trust me I turned the internet up side down to find one. This is why I am going to keep a Xeon based pfSense M-ITX as a packet router, and whenthis box is going to be ready, will serve as a very powerful access point for 802.11b/g/n/acwith 50+ clients with multiple routing purposes and perimiter tasks. There are not many projects I personally can say I am awaiting, but this is one of them. 1 OmniNegro reacted to this Hide zhang888's signature Hide all signatures Occasional moderator, sometimes BOFH. OmniNegro 155 Posted ... (edited) The main advantage this sort of router would have over pfSense on any old system is very low power usage and no noise. Other than that, you can build a Raspberry Pi to do what you want if you have the patience to get everything configured as you like. *Edit* I should point out the router is much more potent than you may think. It is a dual core 1.6 Ghz CPU. Not a single core. OmniNegro 155 Posted ... Since they are a not-for-profit group, I really doubt they will take your money and run. You will get what you pay for. If I had the cash I would be buying one too. But I will have to wait a while. (My sad little WRT54GL will keep on running at the slow crawl it can manage...) 1 zhang888 reacted to this Hide OmniNegro's signature Hide all signatures Debugging is at least twice as hard as writing the program in the first place. So if you write your code as clever as you can possibly make it, then by definition you are not smart enough to debug it. Guest Posted ... Never joined anything at any crowdfunding site. How does it work? I don't see any info anywhere on when they plan on start shipping these badboys out oops. The answer was obvious. April Share this post Link to post
OpenSourcerer 1435 Posted ... I will have the opportunity to speak to CZ.NIC on CeBIT in Hanover about their Turris Omnia this week. I could bring all the info directly from them to this thread, if desired. If you have any questions for them, ask away, I will relay them. 1 LZ1 reacted to this Hide OpenSourcerer's signature Hide all signatures NOT AN AIRVPN TEAM MEMBER.
