I tried your service some months ago, installing it and running it successfully and without incident. I have re-subscribed after some months, but can no longer log in. I am confident I am making some basic mistake but am just too tired to figure it out a.t.m. - take a look at these please and point out the error of my ways. I have paid for a 3 mo subscriptions, so we are clear.

Hello and welcome back!

You need to re-generate your files (menu "Member"->"Access without our client"). You probably have an old certificate which is no more valid, but above all you are trying to connect to a server which is not in our infrastructure anymore (it has been replaced by two 1 Gbit/s servers, dedicated line/port).

As you will see from the configurator, there are now 3 servers in Holland (100 Mbit/s each, dedicated), 1 in Sweden (1 Gbit/s, dedicated), 1 in Germany (100 Mbit/s dedicated) and 2 in the USA (1 Gbit/s each, dedicated). The server you try to connect too is Sigma, which could no more sustain the load and has been dismissed.

Thanks for the quick reply, but still no success. I have downloaded new files, but for simplicity, the last one I grabbed was VEGA TCP 53, and once I opened the "air.ovpn" file, the "Tunnelblick VPN configuration installation Error" pops up. This was the same for all versions I have tried to attach. A quick look at the console finds this info:

This repeated installation error is not allowing for the old Sigma connection to get replaced (not an expert but see the same 2012-02-18 10:19:31 Attempting to establish TCP connection with 174.140.166.91:53 [nonblock] as before). I am going to try a total reinstall of the VPN software now.

Did a full reinstall with Sirius TCP 53 packet and a fresh copy of client - still no success and repeat of same "Configuration Installation Error". I am still convinced that I am making some kind of n00b error, but I cannot figure it out. I have no idea but I was running old OS X when I used Tunnelblick last time and wonder if new Snow Leopard is part of the problem (?). Any ideas are good ones.

Instructions are given in the second message of the valid link we gave you. The invalid link you cite is reported in the third message and you can safely ignore it. Re-installing Tunnelblick can not solve your problem, because with uninstallation you don't delete the old confiiguration directory, so Tunneblick will continue to see old configuration and certificates.

You can modify a Tunnelblick VPN Configuration two ways:

If you want to change the contents of the installed OpenVPN configuration file, you should select the configuration in Tunnelblick's VPN Details… window, then click the "gear" button at the bottom of the list and select "Edit OpenVPN Configuration File…". That will open the installed OpenVPN configuration file in TextEdit. Changes take effect as soon as the file is saved in TextEdit. Note that this does not modify your original .tblk; it modifies the installed copy only.

If you want to make other changes (to the key/certificate files, for example), you'll have to

Modify your original .tblk to include the changes (rename it to not end in ".tblk", then make the changes, then rename it to end in ".tblk" again);

Delete the old configuration (select the configuration in Tunnelblick's VPN Details… window, then click the "-" button at the bottom of the list); and

Install the modified .tblk by double-clicking it.

 

If you follow step 1 ("edit your OpenVPN configuration file"), you just need to modify the IP address reported in line:

remote 174.140.166.91 <port>

with (in this example we assume you will connect to Sirius, an american server, on port 443):

remote 108.59.8.147 443

Of course you can insert any server IP address you like (see their entry-IP with our configuration generator). Valid ports are 53, 80 and 443.

To switch between UDP and TCP (see the FAQs about their differences), locate the line

proto <protocol>

and set it to

proto udp

if you wish UDP, or

proto tcp

if you wish TCP.

Hi, I thought I'd just do a quick run through for you to try since I run MacOSX Lion and therefore have gone through the procedure a few times, that is if the last admin post didn't help you.

1.) Open tunnelblick and go to VPN details from the icon. Delete every configuration from the left pane (unfortunately you'll have to do them one-by-one and type in your password for each removal). Next go to preferences in the VPN details window and click the "check now" button under "updates" (just to make sure you have the latest version). Once you are done there close tunnelblick.

Choose a server. (For the sake of this instruction I'll just use sirius, TCP and port 443). Checkmark the two boxes at the bottom and click the generate button. (If you are going to be using a proxy, then choose the correct one: http or socks - not common for a home user to be using those so if you aren't sure don't choose either proxy). Then save the file somewhere (I save mine to ~/downloads/vpns/ - Make a new folder for the zip file with the servername as the name ( I make my folder name like: servername-port-protocol-location. ie: sirius-443-TCP-USA for clarity in tunnelblick) . Save the file.

3.) Go the the folder in finder (or your fave file browser), extract the zipfile. you should end up with 4 files in the folder plus the .zip. Delete or move the .zip file from the folder (now there are the 4 files only - anything else in there will make it fail to be imported into tunnelblick).

Next, go up one level so you see your server folder (sirius-443-TCP-USA). Right-click the folder, choose "Get Info".

In the field with the servername add a .tblk extention to the name. Doing that turns what was a folder into a tunnelblick configuration file. So at this point mine would be sirius-443-TCP-USA.tblk. This file should now be about 8.8 or 9 kb.

Now double-click the .tblk file, which will open tunnelblick which will do the import. Now your chosen server will be listed if you click the tunnelblick icon. Click "connect "servername" and it should connect.

If you are having issues after doing all this, check your MacOSX firewall and make sure you don't have it set for essential services only. If you can't browse the web, add a couple of dns servers in System Preferences>Network>The connection you are using (ethernet or wi-fi usually)> advanced button>dns. I recommend OpenDNS, whose server addies are:

208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

Hi, You are welcome for the info, and I'm sure it will help others setup AirVPN on a mac as well, so it's all good. In regards your new question; it is possible to set up your router with VPN, but only if the router itself supports it, and most don't. Check the manual for your router, and if you are still not sure leave a post with the make and model # and I'll do what I can to assist.
