SummerBloom91 0 Posted ... Hi All,I had a question: I connected to an AIRVPN server, connected to utorrent, and began to download a torrent (in that order). While the security is there over VPN through an AirVPn secured server, I'm very worried my security has been breached on account of having both upnp and nat-pmp enabled in Utorrent settings. Can someone please help me? Do I have reason for concern? I've heard people mention that your security is breached once these are enabled and the use of VPN is no longer reliable and that I have leaked out my real ip address and my identity can easily be traced to those torrents. Can anyone confirm with me this is true? I'm really looking for someone to help me - please do. I'm quite concerned. Share this post Link to post
SummerBloom91 0 Posted ... An Update if this helps anyone answer the concern I have: 1)I had Network Lock ENABLED throughout the entire time upnp and nat-bmp were enabled - does the network lock protect me in this instance and not allow any direct connections to my router and instead everything is kept through VPN? 2)In Windows Firewall - I had only two programs allowable through firewall - Utorrent and AirVPN. I'm supposed to allow Utorrent through windows firewall correct so that it can connect to peers, etc? 3)In my router settings, UPNP is enabled, but I have not noted any forwarded ports through review of the settings. Thanks and please consider these when answering the above question. Share this post Link to post

OpenSourcerer 1435 Posted ... Under normal conditions no one would have answered you here. I'll do it, just to show you that we feel kind of misunderstood by you.The community tried to help you, Mr. Tuco99, as seen in the threads How do I port forward and Help with port forwarding. What I personally find amusing is that you call yourself "tech-savvy", yet you can't find the download button for Eddie? Are you a troll? Seriously... no one here can help this service is a fucking rip off We suggested a number of possible solutions, you wrote it would be to no avail. I assume, after some trys you gave up, and started spreading the word about how crappy AirVPN would be. Wow. im now more unsafe then ever Do explain. if i turn off the pile of shit i cant connect at all to anything? I think you mean the Eddie client with Network Lock turned on. You forgot to turn it off since it blocks all traffic that's not going through the VPN. This is a documented feature, by the way. what the fuck is the tap adaptor TAP is the virtual network interface OpenVPN uses. OpenVPN is the VPN solution AirVPN uses. So TAP is necessary to connect to AirVPN. It's no spayware crap. 5 S.O.A., itsmefloraluca, PitDog and 2 others reacted to this Hide OpenSourcerer's signature Hide all signatures NOT AN AIRVPN TEAM MEMBER. zhang888 1066 Posted ... I think Tuco99 has to be awareded for the best misuse of the word "rip off" and the best misuse of the Network Lock feature Commenting in someone elses thread, while having a different unrelated issue to the OP, and by spreading accusations is notonly "not the best way to get help", but it is also considered very rude and egoistic behaivior. Answering to OP:Under the conditions you described, UPNP and NAT-PMP will not lower your security, even if your PC and router supports it.The reason is, since you are connected to the VPN server and did not forward those ports to your Air account, even if thoseports will be opened on your router, this will not put any additional risk to your VPN connection itself. The same condition would occur without VPN as well - you are risking that someone from outside might access ports in yourlocal network. Whether this is good or bad, is up to you and is a subject for a different topic. 1 S.O.A. reacted to this Hide zhang888's signature Hide all signatures Occasional moderator, sometimes BOFH.
