PortForwarding Help

I'm trying to forward some ports. I use the portforwarding option on the Vpn, and it says that it forwards them, but after when i go to canyouseeme.org and see if it is open, it says "I can't find you on port xxx" Am i doing something wrong? or would it be a problem with my security settings or something on my computer? I tried forwarding thru the router first to see if that would work but i end up getting the same results. I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong, but i'm not sure what. Any help would be appreciated

The very first things to check are:

- that the running service is listening to the correct port when the test is performed

- that no firewall is blocking packets to and/or from the service

- that the running service expects TPC packets. Most tests are only in TCP, not in UDP
