Hey all, results of my speed test is below.

Down: 4.824 Mbit/s Out, 3.881 Mbit/s In (80%), 10MB - Up: 0.330 Mbit/s Out, 0.387 Mbit/s In (117%), 1MB - Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2014 17:53:38 GMT - Buffers: 10MB/1MB - Laps: 3, Time: 292.79 secs

I am getting a very poor out speed.

I am running the AirVPN client on  Ubuntu 14.04 over an SSL tunnel.

I have to use a specific server for a service I use that requires fixed IP addresses, so I can't just bounce from server to server.

Any tips for improving this?

Hello,

if possible do not use OpenVPN over SSL, go straight to UDP direct.

Do not trust any speed test, including ours, they are not reliable.

Kind regards

@richardb Download a linux distribution while you watch your download speed. Best speed test ever, though without upload speed. But your upload speed doesn't get throttled as often as your download speed, so it's okay.

Typically, speedtest.net is pretty reliable.  Just pick a server that is very close to the AirVPN server you are connected to.  Then run tests against a few providers in that area.  It is pretty much the "standard" bandwidth test that many use.

I find that downloading a linux distribution doesn't max my connection.  I get upwards of 60Mbps download on speedtest.net, while a linux download tops out round 10.  If I try to download many linux distributions, I can get close to 60, but as you mention, it doesn't test the upload side.  While I was testing out different settings, I found that using the VPN over SSH provided the best download speed (for me), but upload suffered.  Using VPN over SSL provided both good download *and* upload.
