Trouble with Eddie client under Kali (Debian)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have some severe problems getting the Air client installed in Kali Linux, which should be derived from Debian actually.

I am always getting these error when I try to install the client, I tried 2.6 and 2.7 :

"GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._pk_5ftransaction_5ferror.Code4: SimulateInstallFiles not supported by backend"

I then tried the mobile version, which also doesn't work at all, when I try to start it I get the following errors, I tried as user and root :

Unhandled Exception: System.TypeInitializationException: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for Mono.Unix.Native.Syscall ---> System.DllNotFoundException: ./libMonoPosixHelper.so

I am mainly connecting in all my linux installations from command line, which is also working fine from the Kali installation. So why do I need the client? It is because I am using it for the new features for IPTables lock, this means I am just starting the client for the firewall rules and am doing the connections by hand then.

Can you please help me to fix these issues in order to get the client work in Kali?

What I did as a workaround until this is cleared is that I did an iptables-save in my Mint installation where the client is working fine. I then took the saved file over to my Kali installation and changed the iptables through a iptables-restore. This just seemed to work, iptables -S is showing the correct configuration with all the Air servers in it. But it is still a workaround and not very comfortable so I would be pleased to get feedback if this can be fixed or the client can't be used in Kali at all.

Thanks!

Hello!

We just installed a Kali 64 bit fresh system under Virtualbox.

We encountered the error 'SimulateInstallFiles not supported by backend' with the .deb file.

From a root terminal, please run:

# apt-get install mono-runtime

we needed also to run a

# apt-get -f install

and to install AirVPN Client:

# dpkg -i airvpn_linux_x64_debian.deb

You can find the AirVPN icon in 'Internet' menù.

kali.png

Please confirm to us if it works, we would like to add Kali in our supported environments.

Kind regards

Hi,

this worked like a charm now. Thanks a lot.

I didn't try the whole functionality of the client as I am doing the connections manually as I wrote already.

But the install works, it can be started and the iptables lock is also working perfectly, so I suppose the rest will work, too.

Cheers!

Any suggestions?

I am having exactly the problem described here on an x86 computer running the latest version of kali linux. Followed the steps exactly with exception that I am using the x86 version of Eddie.

Any help available? I have previously been successful installing on a 64 bit kali linux.

Hello!

The problem is here:

. 2015.06.01 14:10:26 - OpenVPN > [uNDEF] Inactivity timeout (--ping-exit), exiting

Please make sure that your router firewall does not block UDP packets (system firewall should be fine because you have Network Lock activated).

In case it's your ISP to block UDP (rare but not impossible), try a connection in TCP. You can change connection protocol in client menu/tab "AirVPN" -> "Preferences" -> "Protocols".

Kind regards
