G DATA & VIRUSTOTAL flags Airvpn.exe as trojan

Recommended Posts

Since I've downloaded and installed the new Airvpn 2.5 my Antivirus program shows this alert from time to time:

Virus: Trojan.Generic.11701541 (Engine A)
File: AirVPN.exe
Folder: C:\Downloads\air_windows8_x86_64

I uploaded the file on virustotal and it also shows two alerts as follow:

Symantec WS.Reputation.1 20141002 TrendMicro-HouseCall Suspicious_GEN.F47V0707 20141002

Could someone explain it to me because I'm littlebit confused.

Cheers

Hello!

Provided that you downloaded the original package (check the fingerprint) it's a false positive. As a side note, please upgrade to 2.6.

Kind regards

The words Generic and Suspicious are results of a heurictic analysis. Heuristics in antivirus software are algorithms which calculate how probable it is that a file contains malicious code. It marks a file suspicious if certain thresholds are exceeded.

False positive rates vary, there are good scanning engines and there are worse.
