guernica 0 Posted ... I have a 20/10 mbps plan from my ISP but as soon as I connect to one of AirVPN's servers, any server, I can never get over 10/10 mbps speeds. Is there some kind of throttling going on? I am using an Asus RT-N66U router with merlin firmware and VPN setup according to the instructions found on this site. I don't know what to do but obviously losing half my download speed when connected through AirVPN isn't acceptable, nor would I think it is normal. Any possible solutions I could look into? Do ISPs have a way of throttling VPN connections? I don't know what's wrong here. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Quote Share this post Link to post
SlyFox 10 Posted ... The bottleneck is your router processing the encryption. If you need a faster speed I would recommend you connect your PC with the client or visit the Pfense thread in this forum. Quote Share this post Link to post

Your router CPU processing power can't handle more than 10 Mbit/s AES-256 throughput (AES-256-CBC is the cipher of our OpenVPN Data Channel). Use a powerful enough pfSense box or connect directly from your computers (up to three simultaneous connections form different devices are possible with the same account) to bypass your router bottleneck.
