McLoEa 25 Posted ... Hi guys, I had an 'upgrade' from virginmeda yesterday from one of their superhub router/modems to a superhub 2. This change in kit also changed my static IP address from one beginning 81. to one now starting with 213. The previous 81. address was a local subnet ID that a few other folk I know of in this area shared with me but the new 213. ID is a Scottish area ID and that is not local to me at all. Since this upgrade I have had DNS leaks as shown by ipleak.net on every connection I have made using eddie 2.3,I have tried to apply the fix as described here,https://dnsleaktest.com/how-to-fix-a-dns-leak.html but for no positive result. In fact after running that fix I get more leaks. I have also re-installed the airvpn client. If anyone has any idea what is happening here or how I can clear these leaks up I'd be grateful to hear it. Thanks Quote Share this post Link to post
Staff 10014 Posted ... Hello, to prevent Windows DNS leaks with Eddie it is enough to activate option "Force DNS". Click "AirVPN" button, select "Preferences", click "Advanced" tab, select "Force DNS" option and click "Save". Kind regards Quote Share this post Link to post
McLoEa 25 Posted ... and then re-start the client.Hello, to prevent Windows DNS leaks with Eddie it is enough to activate option "Force DNS". Click "AirVPN" button, select "Preferences", click "Advanced" tab, select "Force DNS" option and click "Save". Kind regards I did try that yesterday and for no result but today after changing the settings and re-starting Eddie it seems to have done the trick. Thanks. Quote Share this post Link to post
Staff 10014 Posted ... Hello, it is not necessary to re-start the client, but it is obviously necessary to disconnect and reconnect to the VPN if a change is performed while a connection is active. Kind regards Quote Share this post Link to post
McLoEa 25 Posted ... As an addendum, will forcing DNS cause extra overhead in the tunnel as I appear to have lost a few Mbps in speed since enabling that? Quote Share this post Link to post

McLoEa 25 Posted ... Oops, one more if I may..... I notice that Eddie 2.3 keeps switching servers, are there operational reasons for this? I like Switzerland and Luxembourg for my server locations at the moment but after i have been logged on for a while I now see that I am logged on to Holland and jumping between a few servers there as well. I know I can create a whitelist with only Swiss and Luxembourg servers but could I expect any loss of performance or any other adverse effects by not allowing the client to switch if and when it chooses?
