email spam

Not sure if this is a coincidence but shortly after using the VPN service for the first time a couple of weeks ago, I am suddenly getting a lot of European email spam for online casino's and such. Nothing is coming to the email I signed up with, but another one I regularly use is getting quite a few a day and the number is increasing. I have never received emails of this nature before, especially from Europe, and generally have not received a lot lot of spam at all. Also, I do not have dealings with anyone or any businesses outside of North America. Anyone have any idea why this would be suddenly happening?
