Power-line network

Hi, everyone!

Does anyone of you have had experience with Power-line networks? It's no replacement for LAN or fiber connections, of course, but I'm interested in how wireless LAN networks could be replaced with it.

I'm particularly interested in throughput and packet latency data as well as security aspects and general recommendations about hardware to be used and their configuration options.

TP-Link TL-PA4010 kit delivers 500Mbit between both ends. Same latency as LAN, if you don't have electrical interference.

Security: anyone with access to your electric circuit can be a member of your LAN, however this is almost not an issue with

most homes. Make sure to get AV2 compatible devices.

There is an encryption that you can setup between your devices that slightly decreases throughput  so that others on your circuit and a powerline device can't get on your network.

 

I have older devices that I used on a home where wireless just didn't transmit far.  Speed was quite a bit lower than the optimal throughput but it was reliable.  Perhaps the newer tech is even better.
