Internet Blocked When Eddie VPN off

Recommended Posts

I can't connect to the internet (wired or wireless) without Eddie Air VPN on. Contacted ISP and they are sending a new router but I also bought a new router and that didn't work, tried uninstalling Eddie (didn't work) I think it may be a DNS issue or IP address issue or some setting blocking internet when VPN is off.. Has anybody else had this issue with Eddie blocking wired and wireless connections when not using VPN? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Erm.. wow, that's quite the overreaction, to be honest. It's most probably DNS, and even if not, it's completely on your computer's side since it was Eddie (or, rather, OpenVPN/Wireguard behind it) that changed some network settings; a new router will do you no good here.

What's the OS?

This happened to me, but that was eons ago and on Windows host.

Eddie typically backs up the current system DNS configuration on startup and replaces it with AirVPN’s DNS servers for the duration of the VPN session. Under normal conditions, the original DNS settings are restored when the session ends.

However, if the client or system shuts down unexpectedly, this restoration step may not complete. As a result, the system can be left using AirVPN DNS servers. On subsequent launches, Eddie may then back up this already-modified state instead of the original configuration, effectively losing the previous (likely DHCP-assigned) DNS settings.

To resolve the issue, reset your DNS configuration [while Eddie is not running, Staff]. Go to your network settings and set IPv4 DNS to Automatic (DHCP). This will restore your system’s default DNS behavior.

If you think you've an issue with your routeur or your ISP, then go inside your routeur launch your routeur diagnostics to see if you have internet before you toss everything away.

I'd disable the auto connect on startup in Eddie and the network lock, then close Eddie.
If need be reset the connexions in the network and sharing center.
And reboot the computer.
Your DHCP should be ok.

Then see whats hapenning with putting back Eddie.
If you've renewed your public key in your client area, you may get somes issues with Eddie still using your previous key.
I've already made a fool of myself with a distant computer because Eddie is not automatically relocking with the new certificate so the computer was unreachable.
