ANSWERED Is it possible to have a program run through the VPN on ubuntu but not the rest of the computer?

Recommended Posts

My question is if it is possible to have a program, in this case deluged, run through the vpn but not have anything else on the computer be affected, i.e. have the original isp ip address? I'm on Ubuntu 19.10. Thank you.

Yes. See this:

https://github.com/tool-maker/VPN_just_for_torrents/wiki/Running-OpenVPN-on-Linux-without-VPN-as-Default-Gateway

" In order to do this you need to suppress the VPN from becoming the default gateway and set up routing to allow "source address routing". Then the client programs meant to use the VPN must be bound to the VPN interface IP address. "
