OpenVPN speeds super slow after VPN Need help

This is my first post so please dont mind my mistakes. I just set up AirVPN on my R7000 ddwrt router. Most of the basic things works except the speed of the usenet has dropped significantly. I usually get around 30MB/s + without VPN.I have not overclocked my CPU so its running stock at 1GHz. Please help if I am somehow throttling the connection as I discovered after reading endless forums that R7000 can handle that speeds.

router CPU can't do openvpn very fast at all.

only a few can, if they have the proper firmware and an AES-NI CPU.
