"Checking DNS Failed" Error on Ubuntu 18.10

I've been using AirVPN and Eddie on Xubuntu 18.04 for a couple months now with no issues. However, a couple days ago I upgraded to Xubuntu 18.10 and have since been experiencing constant "Checking DNS Failed" errors while Eddie attempts new connections. I've found this issues in the forums, but haven't been able to solve it and need some help.

What happened:
-Eddie was working in Xubuntu 18.04 and this issue began after upgrading to 18.10

-I was connected to the VPN with Eddie while doing the system upgrade

-I currently have no network issues with Eddie disabled

Things I've tried:

- Disabling DNS Checks in Eddie. This results in a faulty internet connection where I cannot load webpages in my browser.

- Using the Eddie generated resolv.conf file, and deleting it to have a new one generated. Not sure how this works, but I definitely had one generated by the system and one from Eddie, neither of which solved any issues.

-Disabled IPv6, which made no difference.

Classified as a warning? Really, AirVPN?

 

From Ubuntu 18.04+, systemd-resolved is used for DNS resolution. It doesn't always work as intended with Eddie, or Eddie with it.

What I would do is to create an additional network profile for your interface and define 10.4.0.1 as your DNS server, leaving everything else on DHCP. It guarantees that systemd-resolved updates the DNS servers accordingly. Then disable DNS switching in Eddie altogether. That way you never rely on something you can't control.
