A bit of my experience with OpenVPN: I used to have my own VPS with a OpenVPN server over UDP, on which I forced cipher none in order to further improve performance (I'm not concerned about privacy). After clean OpenVPN protocol was blocked, I started using AirVpn. Unfortunately, only SSL on 443 works, and as I see on the Stats page AES-256-GCM is used. I tried adding cipher none to base directives, but it did not work.

PS please add any other suggestions to improve the performance

If privacy is not your concern, why using a public VPN?

When you just need connectivity from another location,

consider setting a GRE tunnel or OpenVPN cipher-none,

or just some SOCKS proxy on a random VPS you can buy

for $2-3 anywhere online.

No commercial VPN provider will offer you NULL ciphers.
