whiskey_76 6 Posted ... I use primarily Duck Duck Go and StartPage search engines because they value privacy. Any better ones you guys use? 1 Casper31 reacted to this Quote Share this post Link to post

OpenSourcerer 1442 Posted ... Ever since I read Untangling The Web - A Guide To Internet Research, I for example use different search engines. I first search with StartPage, then DDG, Google, Bing. It almost never comes to Google and Bing as most things I look for are found on SP and DDG. Google and Bing are naturally a bit more personalized, and so it happens that I suddenly find something on Google StartPage wasn't showing. Searx looks great, I'll look into it. SDBF 22 Posted ... Startpage.com is my goto. Ixquick.eu is my next in line. Now the same company owns both and Ixquick.com is the same as Startpage.com, both use google. But Ixquick.eu does not use Google in any way. DuckDuckGo and Searx are next. I'm not as enamored of DuckDuckGo as some are, The owner has a questionable past that makes his search something I view with caution. Check out this article and pay special attention to the part of the article that starts discussing ownership and investors and from there everything below that. There are concerns to say the least and the owner has a questionable past when it comes to privacy. http://securityspread.com/2016/10/24/duckduckgo-startpage-2016-update/ For me Startpage was founded upon privacy the take it very seriously. DuckDuckgo seems like they want to build a platform that in the end I fear will be like Facebook. That attitude starts right at the top with the owner. Quote Share this post Link to post
