"Vast problems with Android VPN"

Recommended Posts

No native VPN app basically guarantees no problems.

Most VPN "apps" in that list is actually adware masked as a free service.

The only VPN app you should trust on your mobile device is the one from OpenVPN.

Here is a link to the paper of the security researchers:

An Analysis of the Privacy and Security Risks of Android VPN Permission-enabled Apps

https://research.csiro.au/ng/wp-content/uploads/sites/106/2016/08/paper-1.pdf

And a TorrentFreak writeup which is good for alerting some:

Google have been making various nice noises about guarding Android customers security and benefits of just using the Play Store and vetting of apps. So just appears to be more "alternative facts" with implications for all 3rd party apps, not just free/premium "vpn"s. And the need for more consideration of "antivirus" antimalware apps to scan the phone after the "trust me, click me" install.
