Microsoft makes big privacy changes to Windows 10

That remains to be seen. People need to run their network through Wireshark again and tell the world what has changed. Does someone here feel chosen to do so?

Just setting up on a new Lenovo Edge 560 laptop because my old W7 E530 has developed a coldstart deadness sometimes. So t he horror of Windows 10 temptation tiles and constant wearing of the SSD with busy service somethings ...

1. Install AirVPN

2. Install VirtualBox

3. Install Linux Mint in VB

4. Install Firefox, Chromium, qBittorrent, VLC, IntelliJ Idea, jEdit and a few other things in LM and avoid W10.

5. Turn off all the telemetry etc stuff of Windows that can be found in ControlPanel.

6 Install Spybot-AntiBeacon on W10 and let it block everything it can.

7. Run W10 Resource Monitor and enjoy it just seeing process VirtualBox.exe using CPU and disk and network io, no details of what I am doing, and W10 just talking to itself and trying to call its mother from various VPN servers on various continents with nothing much to say.

Maybe I should have gone for dual boot, but various problems reported re drivers etc. And need to use W10 for VLC rendering of 1080p video with hardware assist, and a DVB-T tuner, and Android Studio phone emulator VM. So nice to be concurrent with Linux on the same monitor/keyboard.

Already paid for AVG Ultimate so will probably run when the 30day McAfee trial expires. McAfee should benefit from Intel engineering, but seems to be screwed over by the marketing execs, and maybe is yankee spyware.

Your windows need curtains and locks, otherwise the perverts and crims will peer in at you, and may break in and steal your stuff or attack you.

If you use Win 10 use these programs with it to help mitigate some of the spying.  I'm not saying they catch everything, but it's better than nothing.

Use Keyscrambler(use to be an addon for browsers but now is stand alone.  The free version has a some good features and the other two pay versions add more stuff it will work with.  Also it works with more than just Win10.

It sucks that this is the way MS is going.  At some point soon I'm heading over to Linux, probably on a new desktop and then on this one have dual boot Linux/Win 10  for my gaming needs.  At some point I hope Linux is able to advance enough that MS Windows is no longer needed at all for gaming.

Wise move. And Linux is gaining momentum every day for gaming, Largely due to such projects as Vulkan. If you do not already know, Vulkan is a free and open source API for rendering. You could say it is the successor to OpenGL, but in the 2016 Doom, Vulkan is at least equal, if not better than DirectX12, and is available on any OS.

Here. Read up and spread the word. It is time to abandon closed source APIs that force us to use privacy invading OSes like Windows 10.

Debugging is at least twice as hard as writing the program in the first place.

So if you write your code as clever as you can possibly make it, then by definition you are not smart enough to debug it.

You can block various Microsoft tracking hosts with various open source tools, if this concerns to you so much:

Overall you get a much more secure Windows system, with much better exploit mitigation techniques built-in, and that's what should matter more.
