Modifying timezones?

Recommended Posts

The Tor browser and Whonix use the UTC timezone to make fingerprinting more difficult. The tor daemon for general linux systems, however, uses the hosts assigned timezone -- so, *not* UTC; making tor daemon users/traffic more identifiable.

I generally connect to a VPN server, they use tor. Could changing my timezone to something it's not (UTC) have any kind of negative effect on my VPN connections?

No but it won't give you much extra privacy either. Actually using UTC might be more unique than you think.

Who else is using UTC except Iceland and some west African countries? You need to choose a timezone that is used by the majority

of people in order to mix in the crowd. So a good idea would be to take the most populated county in a given continent and use it's timezone.
