Help, cant connect to internet? Ubuntu 16.04 with with Ubuntu Network Manager

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, so new to Linux/Ubuntu so bit of a noob.

Ive followed these instructions

https://airvpn.org/topic/11432-using-airvpn-with-ubuntu-network-manager/

Used the recommended connection mode

Everything went as planned, and when i connect to the VPN, it says VPN connection established

However it wont load any browser page, server not found?

Could it be something to do with the firewall i activated?

Also .... tried to install the Eddie , got as for as trying to run the client

Then it said something along the lines of

No root access detected, the recommended i install different packages?

Yea so still getting used to the linux environment and dont want to be installing packages without understanding them

Cheers guys, any help appreciated !!

We'd need OpenVPN logs.

1. Eddie must be started as admin: sudo airvpn

2. You need the Mono framework installed. How exactly did you manage to install it yourself?

Hi mate, thanks for the reply!

Sorry how would i go about getting these logs?

For eddie, I just D/L the files, extracted them and then double clicked AIRVPN icon, thats when i got this message.

So do i have to install the mono framework, then run Eddie from the command line instead?

Been digging around trying to find instructions or tips but havent really got anywhere.

Cheers bud ...

Not sure where you can view them. Is there anything in /var/log? Maybe /var/log/openvpn, or some other directory of network-manager? Maybe someone else can help you more on this.

Does not sound like you downloaded the .deb file but the portable tar. I'd recommend downloading the Debian package, installing it with sudo dpkg -i airvpn-linux-x64.deb, then running sudo apt-get -f install. After that, Eddie is available via sudo airvpn or in the desktop of your choice.

I should've written that I don't remember the exact name of the package... but I also hoped you would know how to find out the package name yourself. Hint: ls. No offense but the rest should be logical, try to think.

Easy way:

- Download the experimental version of Eddie. Click on "Other versions" and choose "Experimental". Of course choose 64 bits if it's your machine.

Once downloaded, open the folder and right click on the icon of the program (Eddie deb file) and choose the first option: to open with the Software Installer. It will ask for your password and a new window will be opened to install it.

Click, wait and done.
