OpenVPN speed for AC68U

I have a 250 MBPS connection. Would the AC68U be fast enough so that I could use openVPN on it and max my connection?

no, the AC68 can do about 50mbit/s.  I have one, overclocked to 1200mhz, so I know.

If you want to max anything beyond 100Mbit, no consumer router will be able to deliver it.

You will need a dedicated solution like a custom built PC which whole purpose is a router.

Got an AC87U and it reaches around 50Mbit on standard clock speed so no you won't max your connection.

That can't be right, otherwise ISPs wouldn't be selling people 1Gb lines.

This is true in the context of running an OpenSSL and AES256 tunnel on an embedded CPU of the router. They are not designed for that.

You can achieve a near 1Gbit speeds on the port itself, if you router has 1Gbit ports. But the CPU will be always the bottleneck.
