Can't view web pages shortly after connecting to VPN

I know this has to be something simple, and I'm hoping someone can think of something I'm overlooking:

 

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 (via the free upgrade channel), but then did a full wipe and fresh install of 10.  After trying different builds of the AirVPN client, I'm having a problem with being able to view web pages after connecting to any server.  It doesn't happen immediately, but after a few minutes or so.  I still have a connection, as file locker downloads continue unabated, and my torrent client still shows upload/download activity (no loss of speed, either).  I can't figure out why I can't browse the web after connecting to VPN.  I'm not using port forwarding or Windows firewall.
