When AirVPN connects my Google account localises to Hong Kong

I'm connecting to an American AirVPN based server. This only appears to happen once my AirVPN client connects. I'm on Mavericks using Tunnelblick. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Is it a case that the traffic is getting routed through a Hong Kong based location and in doing so some of the information is getting garbled while en route from my Chinese location to the location of the server? Any ideas what I could do to resolve this issue, as it's annoying getting Hong Kong based ads when watching youtube videos.

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, curl ifconfig.me and whatismyipaddress both register the expected WAN IP address when the VPN is up, in case that helps.
