Slow speeds Australian user

Hi,

 

So, I'm a new user and I'm getting really slow speeds. Approximately 1/13th my normal speeds.

 

I've done a fair bit of research, done a lot of testing according to what is suggested, so here is the results.

 

Automatic setting - Down: 0.535 Mbit/s Out, 0.729 Mbit/s In (136%), 1MB - Up: 0.688 Mbit/s Out, 0.607 Mbit/s In (88%), 1MB - Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2015 09:41:41 GMT - Buffers: 1MB/1MB - Laps: 3, Time: 196.93 secs

 

UDP 53 - Down: 0.669 Mbit/s Out, 0.615 Mbit/s In (91%), 10MB - Up: 0.631 Mbit/s Out, 0.619 Mbit/s In (98%), 1MB - Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2015 09:18:16 GMT - Buffers: 10MB/1MB - Laps: 3, Time: 853.86 secs

SSL repeat Down: 0.522 Mbit/s Out, 1.059 Mbit/s In (203%), 1MB - Up: 0.592 Mbit/s Out, 0.541 Mbit/s In (91%), 1MB - Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2015 09:58:32 GMT - Buffers: 1MB/1MB - Laps: 3, Time: 201.37 secs

 

I repeated the SSL test because it was the highest, and I wanted to check if it WAS the highest, or just an aberration. It was just an aberration it seems.

 

Another suggestion was using different countries, so I used a country that had the lowest ping using the best protocol:

 

Antares Singapore (lowest ping) SSL - Down: 0.729 Mbit/s Out, 0.416 Mbit/s In (57%), 1MB - Up: 0.676 Mbit/s Out, 0.319 Mbit/s In (47%), 1MB - Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2015 10:03:39 GMT - Buffers: 1MB/1MB - Laps: 3, Time: 258.27 secs

 

I know I could have continued doing a lot more full tests, but I ran through all of the other protocols and checked the information in overview and it was always approximately the same (I made sure I was downloading something while I was doing this as well, just in case that affected that number)

 

I also made sure to disconnect and reconnect between testing each protocol. I also did the leak... thing (forgot what it's called sorry)

 

But I can't think of anything to do that might increase the speeds. For more information as well: My ISP is Optus and I'm on ADSL 2+ and all of the tests were done with all bandwidth stuff off. I also did speedtest.net tests and my non-VPN speeds were what they normally are (~13Mbits/s)

Yup, Windows 7, should have mentioned that before.

what DNS servers do you use?

Try to change it to Google public DNS (8.8.8.8 , 8.8.4.4)

I made the change and I went up to 9Mbit/s while connected. It's not the full 13 but it's much better.

 

I'll try the different Protocols again to see if that changes the speeds for the better again, but this is much better.

DNS servers have nothing to do with download speed. they only resolve domain names.
