How do you configure the firewall (I'm wondering about both Comodo (Windows) and GUFW (Linux)) when using Air VPN over TOR? Or, are the firewall settings to prevent leaks the same as if I were just using Air VPN?

Assuming I was fine with my ISP seeing that I'm using TOR, is there any reason to choose TOR over VPN instead of VPN over TOR? I read the TOR page on this site, but I just want to be sure there aren't cases in which I shouldn't choose VPN over TOR.

I've heard some people talk about wanting to hide from their ISP the fact that they are using TOR. Why is this? Do some ISPs not tolerate their customers using TOR?

Some countries are turning totalitarian. Like here in Sweden, they now have legislature proposal that you need a license to use the internet. They also have a proposal saying there should be a curfew for ALL men after 7pm every night (You know, because all men are potential rapists according to the socialist feminists running this country). So you shouldn't be surprised people want to hide the fact they are using Tor from anyone. Not least the ISP. As soon as I can get the freaking settings to work, I'll be using VPN over TOR all the time. I am not angry anymore. Just afraid.

I am confused.  You said you fully understand WHY folks hide TOR from "not least the ISP".  But then you continue to struggle with VPN over TOR, which will NOT hide TOR use from your ISP.  I just wanted to make sure you know that you are reversing the order.  TOR over Air will obfuscate TOR use and your ISP will then be in the dark!!!!

Yes you're right, but I didn't say I'm trying to hide my Tor use. Just that it's not surprising that people in general do want to do that.
As I understand it Air over Tor gives better protection than vice versa, although my head is spinning from all this technical stuff I'm trying to learn
Good thing there are people here to clarify things for us noobs

I am sorry that I didn't respond to this yesterday.  Somehow I missed it.  Where I live many are worried about this:

Guilty by association = TOR

In general there is a perception that TOR is used by "hidden services" doing terrible things to young people and women, and of course drugs, etc......  Sure VPN's can be misused but there is NOTHING as dangerous as the dark/deep hidden onion services.  Its true too, there are some things I don't even want to see and I am not that much of a prude.  In defense of TOR the pure privacy and simplicity of the system makes anonymity for relative newbie's a doable task.

Because of the STRONG anonymity and security of TOR --- unfortunately --- those needing protection from discovery flock to it.  I am a privacy advocate and that lures me because of its strength.

VPN's don't have a true "under-world" of hidden mechanisms and so the REALLY dark actors head to TOR.  You can try and deny it but its true.  I could start naming the big hidden sites brought down but what is the point?

I love TOR because of its strong circuit rotation and anonymity.  I just don't want to be associated because of the comments I just posted.  So for me, its TOR over VPN leaving my association obfuscated by the bridge.  I feel quite strongly about it, but I do know others feel differently.
