Transmission reporting port as closed when it is open

Recommended Posts

Hi, any ideas how to diagnose the problem of why transmission is not accepting connections?

Setup:

* Ubuntu 12.04 headless

* transmission-daemon running, listening port 46555

* AirVPN port forwarded from 46555 external to 46555 internal

* Firewall off

I have several ports being forwarded by AirVPN and those ports are being reported as open as you'd expect. However, the transmission port is being reported as closed.

When I run lsof -i I can see the ports are open.

user@box:/var/log$ sudo lsof -i | grep 46555
transmiss 27798 debian-transmission 10u IPv4 8074676 0t0 TCP *:46555 (LISTEN)
transmiss 27798 debian-transmission 11u IPv6 8074678 0t0 TCP *:46555 (LISTEN)
transmiss 27798 debian-transmission 12u IPv4 8074679 0t0 UDP *:46555

I can connect to the ports locally, but cannot via the VPN. I've tried changing the ports and cannot connect through the new port either. It's baffled me why the port is open locally but not through the VPN especially when other ports are being forwarded just fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
