Eddie error on Tumbleweed

Recommended Posts

Since this morning I get the following message on openSUSE tumbleweed

"Access to the path /etc/issue is denied"

It is a link to /run/issue

Thanks in advance.

I delete /etc/issue and it works for the time being.

Don't now yet what happens after restart.

I install the beta version 2.14.4

But after restart the problem is back

Not an expert on Gnome but usually /etc/issue just contains the name/version of your distribution. This might be checked by Eddie in order to apply some distribution-specific settings. Anyway, do NOT just delete files under /etc unless you know what you are doing, you might break something. Since Eddie runs with root privileges, access shouldn't be denied. To be sure check file permissions on /etc/issue. Only other thing I can think of: Do you have any MAC/DAC framework installed that restricts access and supersedes file permissions?

Since I had more problems with app's under tumbleweed, I did a clean installation of Leap 15.
Everything works again as it should.
Tumbleweed gave me too many problems lately.
Thank you all for contributing.

Hello,

I am having the exact same issue on Tumbleweed.

I have been using a workaround where if you open Super User Terminal and run airvpn them selling
out of terminal it works fine without issue.

It's not ideal, but at least it works with that method for now.
