Suggestion - allow routing exceptions to be added by site name

Hi,

 

In my OpenVPN client I can add exceptions to the custom_configs file to allow certain websites to bypass the VPN tunnel. To do this, for example, I add the following line:

 

route whatsmyip.org 255.255.255.255 192.168.0.1

 

In the Eddie client I can do this by IP address but not by site name as above. Would it be possible to include this feature in future versions if possible?

This exposes you to a big and unnecessary potential security risk.

Unlike IPs, websites rely on DNS in order to resolve hostnames to IPs.

 

So any website that sets it's A record to 0.0.0.0, will be able to modify your routing table in

a way to completely bypass the tunnel, and route your entire traffic via the non-VPN gateway.

I didn't realize this but thank you for making me aware of it. I guess it would be better to find out the IP addresses of the sites I want to bypass and exclude them by address rather than hostname from now on. *runs away to fix things...*

Edit: it seems that most of the the sites I'm trying to bypass sit behind Cloudflare's servers which changes addresses on a regular basis... I almost forgot the reason why I'm using the OpenVPN client over Eddie in the first place
