Question regarding VPN>Tor use

Hi in wake of all the Prism News I feel much more secure and safer with AirVPN.

 

However some questions about Tor and VPN in general please ?

 

1. I prefer connecting to AirVPN and then using Tor,  is this still the best way forward to remain more anonymous ?

 

2. Does Tor web browser store history and cache on the pc hard drive ?  

 

3. Some have suggested,  its best to use Tails cd to remain anonymous,  but they do NOT recommend or support VPN

and even suggest it works against there Tails software making it worser... I do like the idea of Tails since it runs off the cd only,  but of course your limited and frankly Windows o/s at least you can install PC games/PC software and your printer even!
