Norton & Program Control

I have Norton Internet Security and its firewall has Program rules which I am looking to use to only allow connections in/out of AirVPN servers as a way to control leaks on VPN disconnection. Has anyone configured Norton successfully in this regard? If so, what are the in/out IPs or ranges to use?

I can't help you with that specifically, though you could uninstall then reinstall the suite but without Norton's Firewall. In it's place you should use the AirVPN recommended COMODO Firewall which is free.

 

If you really want to use Norton's firewall you'll have to interpret then adapt the rules used for setting up Comodo which wouldn't be guarateed to be set up correctly. If you use Comodo AirVPN can check any screenshot you send them to verify you did indeed follow the configuration steps correctly.

Thanks, I think I will have a look at Comodo but am not sure how well NIS & Comodo will work even if I have the firewall disabled. From recent forums posts, it looks like v2 of the AirVPN client may have some IP Leak prevention built in so looking forward to that. Also, I recently found out that the Vuze BT client has the capability to bind to a specific interface

I'm using ESET's antivirus with Comodo's firewall without issue. If I were you I'd actually uninstall the firewall component rather than just disable it as it would be less likely to conflict I imagine. Best backup any rules you've made in NIS before uninstalling incase you need to revert back.

 

qBittorrent also allows you to bind to just use the OpenVPN adapter which works nicely. uTorrent allows advanced option net.bind_ip but I've found it doesn't work well although it may well have improved in later versions. Using Vuze's bind to interface feature may be all you need if that's the extent of your concerns.

 

I have not seen anything on the AirVPN client implementing this but it would add a third layer of protection for you if you were to use your torrent client's feature, Comodo and then v2. Likely overkill however I can't see it doing any harm either. Would be nice to have it added.
