Fatal: Linux ifconfig failed: could not execute external program - Android 2.3.6

Hello!

 

I'm trying to connect using the generated ovpn files on my rooted Samsung Galaxy ace running GB 2.3.6 but

after the "Get Config" I'm receiving the following message: "Fatal: Linux ifconfig failed: could not execute external program"

 

Here is what I did:

 

1. installed the following apps from the google play store: "Busybox", "Openvpn Installer", "Openvpn settings", tun.ko with the "tun ko installer"

 

2. purchased a 3 days trial plan and generated the ovpn files

 

3. put the ovpn files to the sdcard/openvpn folder and was trying to connect in the "Openvpn settings"

 

The process goes through te "Auth", "Get Config" phases , then it stops with the "Fatal: Linux ifconfig failed: could not execute external program" message.

 

I have the Openvpn installed both to system/bin and system/xbin folders. The busybox is also in the system/bin.

(I have tried with both installed in the system.xbin folders, but with the same result)
