Open Source software as AirVPN byproduct?

Recommended Posts

My impression is that AirVPN is as much a advocacy group as it is a business. Of course it needs to be a business in order to demonstrate what can be done to fight back against internet censorship. And bills have to be paid. People need to make a living.

As someone who has an interest in Open Source software, I cannot help thinking how helpful it would be to the anti-censorship cause if integration software such as what AirVPN is developing on its servers were available as Open Source software. If you guys did had such leanings, you would of course have to be careful not to injure the business side of your efforts too much. So I am sure that any such possibility is a long ways off.

But I have to wonder, "What if AirVPN becomes the target of a concerted effort to interfere with you?" Things like this happen to trail blazers in internet privacy and openness. Even if you guys are unlikely to release a suite of Open Source server software any time soon, are you doing your development with the thought in mind that you may one day see releasing it as an option?

Am I completely off-base with these speculations and questions?
