Eddie won’t open (Linux Mint, Ubuntu based)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’m running Linux Mint 22.1 (Xia), with the Cinnamon desktop. I’ve searched and found a couple of other people with a similar issue but no resolutions posted yet.

For some reason, when click on Eddie, nothing seems to happen (it won’t open). I have the repos added and installed via CLI but I uninstalled it and reinstalled both via CLI and via the .deb download. Nothing has worked.

I ran eddie-ui in terminal and got the following error message:

Cannot initialize UI. Probably a DISPLAY issue, ensure your are not running as root. Error:A null reference or invalid value was found [GDI+ status: InvalidParameter]

Following the instructions in another thread, I added
echo $DISPLAY
The output is
:0

I’m kinda lost as to what might be going on. I’m not running as root and there is clearly a display running. Any help would be very much appreciated. I have searched for solutions and followed up on what little I found but still nothing.

For reference, here are a couple of the other threads that I found:

I can confirm that Mint 22.1 with full Cinnamon Desktop using Eddie is working perfectly and fast on my systems.  No issues, so its something on your end!

Mint had a few updates this morning when I logged on ---- did you do those updates?  I did!!

Thought I would come back and add that I am using the "true cinnamon" DE version on Mint 22.1, and not one of the "Minty" Cinnamon flavors.  You could easily change to the conventional/normal cinnamon version by clicking it on Themes and see if that makes a difference.  Just trying to help and be thorough.

Also, before coming here I was running a VPN chain with multiple instances of Eddie running on Mint 22.1.  So its working fine in VM's as well as bare metal on Mint 22.1.
