Verification code not integrated into Safari/ Apple Password app.

Recommended Posts

since IOS release 18.  they added the password app : https://support.apple.com/en-us/120758. section automatic verification codes

I have the verification code requirement on my account.  but it will not integrate with the safari browser and or the password app.    it simply does not work.   I have to manually open the app and type in the code.    this seems to be the only website it will not integrate into

would it be possible to have that fixed?

Works here. Try to download the QR code picture and open it in an image viewer with better contrast.

what I am trying to do is login with my account.
click sign in top right of airvpn.org
it autofills my information
then asks for a verification code.
it does not autofill like every other website.
I have to open the password app and type in the code in the browser.  (safari will auto enter this.   I do understand non safari browsers I have to type in the code)

my account is already setup for dual authentication and has been since I found it could be possible.

Well, could be something to look into for sure. Please try to recreate this with other accounts, softwares and/or devices (and especially with default settings) to rule out some setting being the blocker.

But, honestly, you're not using OTP correctly. The whole shtick about that is that you know the password (the first factor), and possess a one-time password somewhere else (the second factor) – that is why it is called Multi Factor Authentication. It is nonsensical to have them on the same device, let alone in the same app. A would-be attacker just needs to break into one of your Apple devices, or the Apple ID, and could access all your accounts.
It might be a good compromise to outsource password storage to a password store, blending the two factors together a bit (people are forgetful beings, after all), but to have both of them provided by just one app.. it's not smart*. But, suit yourself. :)

*It's funny how Apple's design consistently follows an esoteric, and a bit derogatory, saying I like: Linux is for those who know shit. Windows is for those who don't know shit. And macOS is for people who are too dumb for even Windows.
