sfxdude 0 Posted ... (edited) Is anyone else experiencing exceptionally poor download speeds when connecting to UK based AirVPN servers with Hyperoptic in the UK? This seems to be a recent thing. I usually connect via my router and have 3 connections to different UK servers load balanced. Within the last week or two the download speed has dropped. I suspect this may be something Hyperoptic have done. The download speed varies, but most of the time I can't get more than about 3Mbps down, whereas the uplink still reports 100-200Mbps (my connection is 1Gbps down up). I have tried connecting with Eddie direct from a wired connection just to confirm this is a ISP issue and nothing on my end - and I get the same results. Example speedtest while connected. Given the high upload speed and poor download speed I am lost as to anything that could be causing this on my side. Without the VPN I can achieve 700Mbps+ up and down. I've tried changing the openvpn port/protocol, tried different UK based servers, but most come back with the same terrible speeds. I suspect they have throttled all connections to AirVPN server IPs in the UK. Does anyone have any ideas before I get in touch with them? edit: I'm even more confused now! On further investigation - some port/server combinations produce wildly varying results. I can connect to a lot of servers via openvpn port 80 and get decent download speeds. I can't seem to connect to Naos on any port and get any decent speed. I can't even get decent speeds with connecting to Naos on it's alternate IP (4). I seem to get the same result with any Manchester based server. Might this be a routing issue? Edited ... by sfxdude added speedtest Quote Share this post Link to post
Seraph2 0 Posted ... I've been having the same issues lately with a different ISP (I'm on a university network). No problems whatsoever for years, and in the last week or two the download speeds have become unbearable on any server/protocol that I've tried, but are fine when not connected to any server.
